1. How has you understanding changed about identifying the most commonly prescribed agents in the major drug classes? This course has changed my understanding of many drugs, including the class of drugs and the commonly prescribed drugs. Before, I used to think of insulin and metformin as the main antidiabetic drug. I learned that a patient age factor, comorbidities, work requirement, and socioeconomic conditions are considered throughout the disease course. For example, antidiabetic drugs that are cheaper (thiazolidinediones and sulfonylurea) are prescribed to diabetic patients with cost issues [CITATION Sta201 \l 1033 ]. Similarly, this course has changed my perception regarding antihypertensive drugs as well. For example, my understanding was to avoid angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB)/angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor in African American population, but the JNC guideline familiarizes me with the possible antihypertensive drugs as well as commonly prescribed drugs. Likewise, all ages with diabetes and chronic kidney disease are initiated with ACE/ARB if they have diabetes with/without chronic kidney disease. In addition to this, metformin is the mainstay of the treatment of type 2 diabetes, along with lifestyle management [ CITATION Ros211 \l 1033 ]
